Happy Friday! It's been another busy but very fun week. I loved the responses the first Awaken the Darkness sneak peek sparked! Your comments and messages and emails had me grinning from ear to ear.

Thank you, everyone who has pre-ordered the ebook.
You catapulted Awaken the Darkness up to #1 on more Amazon's bestseller lists, including #1 in Vampire Romances and #1 in Vampire Suspense.
Hitting those lists is always so exciting for me, because I know it helps readers who haven't heard of my Immortal Guardians yet find the series.

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! Here is another peek into the pages of the next Immortal Guardians book, Awaken the Darkness. If this is your first time encountering the series, don't worry. Each book can be read as a stand alone novel or novella. You'll just know more about the secondary characters if you read the books in order. :-)

Today's quote features Stanislav and Susan, the immortal hero and mortal heroine:

Cradling her to his chest, he cursed himself for taking too much blood. He was certain he hadn't taken enough for her to need a transfusion, but it had clearly left her weak.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered, glad she hadn't found the deed in his thoughts. He had feared he wouldn't be able to hide it from her.
The dog began to whine again.
"It's okay, boy," he murmured. "She's okay. She's just tired."
Several minutes passed while he stroked her hair and held her close despite the pain it caused. She was petite and looked as though she only weighed about a hundred pounds. After spending all damned night digging his sorry ass up, no wonder she passed out.
"I haven't seen it yet," she mumbled against his neck as consciousness returned, "but I'm willing to bet your ass is actually quite nice."
Startled laughter escaped him, inspiring another groan. "Don't make me laugh. It hurts too much."
"Sorry. I couldn't resist."

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday! It's been a very fun week. I'm so thrilled by the response the big Cover and Blurb Reveal of Awaken the Darkness has received. Thank you, everyone who has already pre-ordered the ebook! You catapulted it up to #1 on Amazon's Hot New Vampire Thrillers list!
Many audiobook and paperback lovers have been asking me when those editions will become available. Tantor Audio is producing the audiobook as we speak. Kirsten Potter is narrating. Woohoo! So the audiobook will release the same day as both the ebook and paperback: July 10th. I will post the pre-order links for them as soon as I have them.

I haven't been posting favorite quotes as regularly as I used to, but couldn't wait to give you a sneak peek into Stanislav's book, so... It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! Here is a first look into the pages of Awaken the Darkness. In this particular snippet, Stanislav and Susan (the hero and heroine) are some distance away from each other, and Susan is speaking to him telepathically. :-)
If he doesn’t get here soon, I’m going to fall asleep, Susan grumbled.
He loved hearing her voice in his head even when she was cranky.
The thought made him smile. I’ve been keeping you up too late.
Not really, she replied. I’ve always been a night owl. I just haven’t been sleeping late the way I usually do.
And had had one scare after another whilst awake.
Did I mention I’m still sore from digging your handsome ass up?
He laughed.
It was totally worth it, of course, she went on. But if we find out you’re single, I might hit you up for a nice long massage.
He cursed when his body immediately responded to the image of her naked and laid out before him, waiting for him to run his hands all over her body. Now who’s flirting?
Ooh, she purred. That’s so cool. Even in your thoughts, your voice deepens and gets all growly when you’re turned on. Before he could respond, she made a sound of impatience. Damn it. Now I’m turned on.
He laughed, delighted that she inspired him to do so even in such grim circumstances.

Awaken the Darkness Cover Reveal

Hi, all! I have very exciting news to share with you. Awaken the Darkness is Now Available for Pre-Order! Woohoo! This is the book I told you I've been wanting to write for quite a while. It began as a novella, but ended up coming in at 305 manuscript pages. So I'm calling this one Immortal Guardians Book 8 instead of Book 7.5 :-)

Coming July 10, 2018

Return to the "utterly addictive" (RT Book Reviews), "fast-paced and humorous" (Publishers Weekly) world of New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians.

He awakens encapsulated in dirt with no knowledge of how he came to be there. Riddled with injuries, he can remember neither his past nor who he is. Nor can he remember what he is. But surely no mortal man could survive being buried deep beneath the earth. All he knows with certainty is that the soothing voice and presence of the woman moving around above enables him to endure the agony of his wounds. And he will do whatever it takes to be with her.

When Susan first sees the old two-story house for sale, such warmth and longing fill her that—against all reason—she makes an offer. It will take years of hard work and money she frankly doesn’t have to fix up the place. So she can’t explain why she bought it. She also can’t explain what compels her to spend hours one night, digging in the basement until she unearths a man. A man who still lives and breathes despite having been buried alive. A man whose intense brown eyes glow amber with pain, declaring him far more than ordinary. Susan knows she should keep her distance. He has no memory and possesses gifts that would make most fear him. But as the two work together to unravel the mystery of his past, she finds herself drawn in by his teasing nature and tender touch. So much so that she loses her heart to him even as they find themselves hunted by unknown enemies who are ruthless in their quest to capture them.

If you haven't guessed yet, this is Stanislav's book. If I haven't already mentioned it, my editor said, "I love, love, loved this story." I hope you will, too. :-) Thank you, everyone who has asked me for Stan’s story and who has fervently hoped his role in my Immortal Guardians family has not come to an end. I’ve wanted to tell his tale ever since I wrote Night Unbound but had to wait for the right time. When I released Blade of Darkness, Stanislav leapt forward and informed me that the time had come.

The Awaken the Darkness paperback and audiobook will release on the same day as the ebook: July 10, 2018. I'll post the pre-order links for these as soon as I have them. Tantor Audio is producing the audiobook and has already begun recording it. Kirsten Potter is narrating.

Favorite Quote Friday—Exciting News!

Happy Friday! I haven't posted in quite a while, because I've been busy working on my latest manuscript. I hope your year has gotten off to a good start. :-)

If you're a member of my new Books Group on Facebook, you've already heard the news, but for those who haven't . . . I finished my manuscript! Woohoo!! I'm so excited! Remember the novella I mentioned starting when Blade of Darkness released? The one that grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let me go? The one I've been wanting to write for a while? Well, I dove in with no word count restrictions (I'm self-publishing now) and it ended up coming in at 305 pages. LOL. So I'm going to have to start calling it a novel now.

I've already handed it over to my editor. Editing and proofreading will take about a month and a half. Then I'll hand the finished copy over to Tantor Audio, who will get to work producing the audiobook, which will be narrated by Kirsten Potter. That will take about three months. So the ebook, paperback, and audiobook will all release in July. I'll have a specific date for you soon. :-)

I have to get to work writing the blurb now. Condensing an 80,000-word story into one or two paragraphs is not easy. LOL. As soon as I have a cover and blurb, I'll share them with you. I can't wait!

Just a reminder, I've started a new Books Group over on Facebook. Facebook restricts page reach so much now that only 1% or less of the people who have liked my Author Page are seeing my posts. The group is much better. It's constantly growing, and we've been having a lot of fun in it. Group members also get news before everyone but my Street Team. So I hope you'll join. There has been a lot of speculation lately on who this book will feature, but I'm keeping my lips sealed until I reveal the cover and blurb.

One note: If you join the group, you may need to change your settings if you want to see all of the posts instead of just the highlights. To do so, go to:
  • Settings
  • Notifications
  • On Facebook —> Click "Edit"
  • group Activity —> Click "Edit"
  • Dianne Duvall Books Group —> Select "All Posts"
If you join the group, please make sure you answer the two questions. The sole purpose of the questions is to ensure that only readers who are interested in one or both of my series will join, rather than potential spammers, so we can have lots of fun. :-) I look forward to seeing you there!

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! I'd like to send another big thank you out there to the readers who have left reviews for Blade of Darkness. I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I hope you'll enjoy the next book as much. :-) Until then, here's another little taste of Aidan and Dana's story:
Insects hummed.
Frogs croaked.
And every second Dana didn’t tell him to go to hell, Aidan felt a tiny spark of hope.
He motioned to the Taser. “Are you going to use that on me?”
She glanced at the weapon she held. “Would it do any good?”
He shrugged. “It might make you feel better.”
Another nod. “Then I reserve the right to use it on you later. Right now…” Tears welled in her eyes as she swallowed hard once more. “Could you maybe just hold me for a minute?”
Heart aching, he closed the distance between them and pulled her into a tight embrace.
The Taser clattered to the ground as she dropped it and fisted her small hands in the back of his coat.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” He pressed a kiss to her hair, then rested his cheek on top of her head. “I’m so sorry.”
Have a wonderful weekend!

Favorite Quote Friday & News for the New Year

Happy New Year!! I hope you've all been enjoying the holidays. I haven't posted in quite some time because I was sick for a while and also have been trying to carve out some more time to be with my family.

We actually got several hours of snow here one night, the first we've seen in years. So cool! I was sick with the flu and it was the middle of the night, but I went out and played in it anyway. ๐Ÿ˜€ We just had another cold snap that I'm hoping has killed off the mosquitoes and whatever keeps aggravating my allergies. Unfortunately, it also killed off some of my plants, so I'll have to find time to plant more soon.

I noticed the lovely holiday lights around town are beginning to come down, so I thought I'd share some pics of the lights I saw while I was out and about.

I think the last two were my favorites. They were so pretty. I look forward to seeing the lights every year and always end up wishing they'd stay up a little longer.
— • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • — • —

I've started the new year by launching a new group on Facebook—Dianne Duvall Books Group. Facebook has changed its algorithms yet again, so now less than 1% of people who have Liked my page are shown my posts. I've been hearing from a lot of frustrated readers who haven't seen my posts in so long that they didn't know I had released another Immortal Guardians book (Blade of Darkness). Facebook doesn't seem to limit the reach of Groups, so I started the new group to give us all a place to chat and bring you the latest news. I'm already enjoying it. It's been a lot of fun, so I hope you'll join if you like The Gifted Ones and/or my Immortal Guardians series.

* * * All members of the group can read a Bonus Scene from Blade of Darkness that didn't appear in the published book. * * *

If you're a member of my Street Team or have joined the Dianne Duvall Books Group, then you've already heard this. But for those who haven't, I have book news for you:

When Blade of Darkness released, everyone asked me whose book would be next. I said Seth's book will be the next full-length novel released in the Immortal Guardians series, but that there might be a novella between now and then. Well, in case you haven’t heard yet… there absolutely WILL be a novella first. Sort of. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
A story that has been rambling around the outskirts of my imagination for a while now suddenly leapt forward when I released Aidan's story, grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go. I'm very excited about it. But I'm going to keep you in suspense as to who the hero and heroine are. I want you to find out when I release the blurb and cover. ๐Ÿ˜‰ And since I'm self-publishing now, I no longer have to adhere to a prescribed word count. I was supposed to keep the first two under 25k words (100 pages). This one, however, looks like it’s going to come in at around 250 pages, which technically is a novel, not a novella. Hence, the “sort of” above. LOL. It’s still going to be significantly shorter than my other novels, which tend to come in at around 450-500 manuscript pages. So I still think of it as a novella.  I'm so excited!!

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday—the 1st of 2018! Today I thought I would share a brief excerpt of Blade of Darkness with you. Aidan (the hero) is a powerful Celtic immortal and Dana (the heroine) is a mortal psychic.
Dana picked up her fork and speared some salad. “So.” Tucking the crunchy veggies in her mouth, she chewed and swallowed. “You’re smitten with a psychic, are you?”
Relief smoothed the lines in Aidan’s brow. His lips tilted up. “Very much so.”
“Because of the visions?” she asked, trying not to blush.
His smile grew as he picked up his own fork. “I was smitten before the visions. The visions just gave me hope that you might one day be smitten, too.”
And damned if her heart didn’t give a little jump in her chest. “Don’t read my thoughts!”
He chuckled. “I won’t. I’m afraid if I do, I’ll find you trying to think of a diplomatic way to end our date early.”
Better that than him finding her mentally reviewing the visions of them making love.
“You’re blushing,” he said with a wince. “Did I guess right? Are you wanting to end our date?”
“No. I was just…” She shook her head with a smile. “Having those visions about you was already weird. Your knowing about them just makes it…”
“Even weirder?” he suggested.
“You’ve never had erotic visions before?”
“No. Not even about the men I slept with.”
He winked. “Perhaps they simply weren’t very talented in bed.”
I hope you and yours will have a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! Today I thought I would share a snippet of Blade of Darkness with you. Aidan and Dana are the hero and heroine. :-)

Ethan, Heather, Brodie, and Ed all smiled when Dana and Aidan joined them in the living room.

Brodie crossed to Dana. “I don’t know how much you know about Seconds, but our job is to arm and protect the immortals we serve. In this instance, that job extends to protecting you, so if you don’t mind?” He held up a shoulder holster and weapons.

“Oh.” She had thought she would just be observing. “Okay.” While she held out her arms, Brodie fitted her for a shoulder holster he packed with 9mms.

Aidan’s brows drew down as he watched them.

“Is he not supposed to arm me?” she asked. “You look a little pissed.”

Heather laughed. “He just doesn’t like Brodie touching you.”

When Aidan didn’t dispute it, Dana smiled at him. “It’s not like he’s trying to feel me up or anything.”

Aidan’s frown deepened. “He’d lose a hand if he did.”

His Second laughed, unperturbed by the threat.

When Brodie reached both arms around Dana to secure a belt with a thigh holster around her waist, Aidan strode forward and elbowed him aside. “Let me do that,” he grumbled, taking the belt.

Brodie stepped back with a good-natured grin. “Yes, sir.”

Dana watched Aidan as he buckled the belt around her waist, then knelt and went to work, tying the bottom of the holster around her thigh.

He was jealous and didn’t like that he was jealous. Dana didn’t need be telepathic to glean that or to suspect that that was why he wouldn’t meet her eyes.

When at last he did, she grinned. “You are too adorable.”

His soft lips turned up in a sheepish smile. “Sorry about that. Jealousy is new to me. I vow I’ll work on it.”

Dana combed her fingers through his soft, thick, wavy hair. “I don’t mind. I think it’s cute.”

Have a wonderful weekend!
